The Overtures

The Overtures are widely regarded as the UK’s finest Sixties tribute act. To quote Sir Elton John, speaking to GQ magazine after they performed at the celebration of his civil partnership with David Furnish: “This band are amazing! They’re just the best band of their kind in the world.”
Hertfordshire-based The Overtures were formed in 1989, and their line-up consists of founders Den Pugsley (bass/lead vocals) and Steve Phypers (drums/vocals), plus Jamie Cook (guitar/lead vocals), Phil Evans (guitar/vocals) and Chris Skornia (keyboards/vocals).
They’ve been firm favourites for years now on the private party and corporate circuit – performing for Sir Paul McCartney (at his after show party at the O2), Sir David Frost, Elvis Costello and Diane Krall, Lulu, Chris Difford of Squeeze, Kenney Jones (ex of The Who and Small Faces), and many, many others too confidential to mention! December 2012 saw them perform at Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty the Queen’s Christmas Party and more recent weeks have seen them finishing off their first album of completely original material.
During the past five years The Overtures have toured their ‘Bootleg Sixties Sight and Sound Show’ in major UK theatres and have just completed their second tour of the Netherlands. The Overtures return to IBW with the NME Poll Winners show at the Royal Court Theatre on Monday afternoon.
