Cavern Originals: Showcasing the Future of Live Music in the heart of Liverpool

Wednesday, 19 February 2025

The legendary Cavern Club is amplifying fresh, original music with Cavern Originals – a brand-new monthly night spotlighting the best up-and-coming talent in the North West and beyond.

Held on the first Wednesday of every month in the club’s Live Lounge, Cavern Originals provides a platform for hard-working artists honing their craft and pushing forward in the music industry. With its iconic status in live music history, The Cavern is using its prestigious name, world-class stage, state-of-the-art audio facilities, and extensive audience reach to put original music back at the forefront of the scene.

Proudly sponsored by Love Lane Brewery, the debut night was a resounding success, featuring standout performances from Martin Quinn, ME + Deboe, and Land of The Slugs. It set the tone for what promises to be an exciting new addition for the club and Liverpool’s thriving music community.

Clark Gilmour, artist liaison, shared his thoughts:

We already have some amazing nights for original artists with Ian Prowse’s Monday Club each week in the Cavern Pub and our monthly nights with Dave Monks (BBC Introducing) and LIPA. Cavern Originals is about creating even more opportunities to showcase unsigned and developing artists, giving more artists the chance to play at the venue, helping them reach new audiences and propel their music careers forward.

For decades, The Cavern has been home to all kinds of music, and Cavern Originals continues that legacy as it will feature an eclectic mix of music genres over the course of the year, putting musicians together that will create an atmosphere that resonates with the artists and audience alike.

Looking ahead, Clark hopes to see Cavern Originals become an established part of the events calendar and another essential night for new music.

As everyone knows, Liverpool has a legendary music history, which we celebrate here every day and it has a thriving local music scene so it’s important that we not only celebrate the past but also play a role in shaping the future by being part of the current music scene and providing a platform for local talent.

The Cavern Club, which opened in 1957 as a jazz music venue has seen all genres of music through its door. Famed for being the home of the ‘Merseybeat sound’ which saw the rise of The Beatles, Gerry and The Pacemaker, The Searchers to name but a few. In recent times, the Cavern has been home to local home-grown successes The Coral and Red Rum Club as well as offering Adele a stage to launch her album ‘21’ which took her to global stardom and Arctic Monkeys ahead of their debut album release.

The next Cavern Originals night takes place on 5th March, and the best part? Tickets are free and open to over 18s – available now on Skiddle. Check out the line-up at cavernclub.com.
