Iconic Liverpool Venue Proudly Sponsors ‘Newcomer of the Year’ Award to Support the Next Generation of Northern Artists

The Cavern Club, the legendary home of The Beatles and a cornerstone of Liverpool’s vibrant music scene, is proud to announce its sponsorship of the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award at the 2025 Northern Music Awards. Taking place at Liverpool Olympia on 27 March, this prestigious event, hosted by Nordoff and Robbins, celebrates the wealth of musical talent across the North of England while raising vital funds for life-changing music therapy.

The ‘Newcomer of the Year’ category holds special significance for The Cavern Club, an iconic venue that has long been a launchpad for emerging artists over the past seven decades. From the Merseybeat explosion to today’s thriving indie and grassroots scene, The Cavern has long been a platform for emerging artists, offering a stage where new talent can connect with audiences and gain valuable live experience.

A Platform for Future Icons
Last year’s ‘Newcomer of the Year’ winners, English Teacher, have since gone on to achieve national acclaim, securing the ‘Album of the Year’ award this year. The Cavern Club’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists who, like their predecessors, have the potential to leave a lasting mark on the music industry.

Supporting Music with Purpose
By aligning with Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity, The Cavern Club is not only celebrating musical excellence but also supporting the power of music to change lives. The funds raised from the Northern Music Awards will enable Nordoff and Robbins to expand its music therapy services in Liverpool and across the North, providing vital support to people facing challenges such as disability, mental health struggles, and social isolation.

Jon Keats, Director of The Cavern Club, said:

The Cavern Club has been at the heart of the Liverpool music scene for nearly seventy years. The Cavern today is a major tourist destination, but more importantly a thriving, relevant live music venue proudly celebrating its illustrious past as well as the present and the future. The venue has always encouraged and nurtured the next generation of musicians and so it is fitting that we are sponsoring the ‘Newcomer of the Year’  award at the Northern Music. We are delighted to be working with Nordoff & Robbins and we welcome you all to Liverpool.”

With a stellar lineup including performances from Blossoms, Lightning Seeds, The Zutons, and a special tribute to Dr. John Cooper Clarke, the 2025 Northern Music Awards promises to be an unforgettable night of music, recognition, and impact.
