THE CAVERN CLUB TO HOST SPECTACULAR ALBUM LAUNCH CELEBRATION HONOURING MERSEYBEAT LEGENDS

Friday, 28 March 2025
The world-famous Cavern Club is set to make history once again as it proudly hosts the official launch event for a truly special musical release. On 10th April 2025, we will celebrate the unveiling of a landmark studio album and live concert that brings together some of the greatest legends of Merseybeat and 60s music, re-recording their most iconic hits alongside members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
This ambitious and heartfelt project, which began before the Covid-19 pandemic, features stellar performances from Mike Pender (The Searchers), Ray Ennis (The Swinging Blue Jeans), Tony Crane & Billy Kinsley (The Merseybeats), Mike McCartney (The Scaffold), and the late, great Gerry Marsden (Gerry and The Pacemakers).
Produced by Gary Murphy and engineered by Alan Lewis, this album is a breath-taking tribute to the golden age of Liverpool’s music scene of which the Cavern was at the forefront. With orchestral arrangements breathing new life into some of the most beloved songs in British rock ‘n’ roll history, this really is a special album.
Gary Murphy says
The 60s was a decade to remember, it was a social revolution, a time for change. Many great things came from the era including new fashion, new technologies, anti-war protests, the peace movement, and we even put a man on the moon! For me, it was all about the music.
I had the pleasure of re-producing and re-recording some of the greatest hits with the original 60s stars, recapturing iconic songs but with brand new arrangements over 60 years on. I hope listeners will enjoy the brand-new recordings as much as I enjoyed making them.
A FINAL FAREWELL FROM GERRY MARSDEN
In what has become a poignant and deeply emotional moment in music history, the sessions also saw Gerry Marsden record a brand-new song, “On Merseyside, The Pool of Life” (written by Gary Murphy). This track, now his final original recording, stands as a beautiful testament to his love for Liverpool and its rich musical legacy.
LIVE ALBUM & DOCUMENTARY COMING SPRING 2025
As part of this extraordinary project, fans will also be treated to a live concert recorded at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in February 2020—featuring Gerry Marsden’s final public performance. This historic event, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions, will form the backdrop of an upcoming documentary film from LA Productions, due for release in Spring 2025.
Cavern Club director Jon Keats says
Having heard the album and had a preview of the live concert, I can honestly say this is one of the finest Merseybeat projects for many years. To see the guys who were there and to hear these classic songs performed in such a way is both beautiful and emotional.
screening of the documentary will take place at 6:00 PM in the Cavern’s Live Lounge and will be open to all visitors to The Cavern Club.
