Zak Starkey Joins The Cavern Club’s Wall of Fame
On Sunday, January 19th, Zak Starkey—renowned drummer for legendary bands such as The Who, Oasis, and now Mantra of the Cosmos—earned his place on The Cavern Club’s iconic Wall of Fame. This momentous occasion followed two electrifying, sold-out performances by Mantra of the Cosmos at the world-famous Liverpool venue, where the Beatles’ journey began and where Zak’s father, Ringo Starr, cemented his legacy as part of the Fab Four.
Mantra of the Cosmos, formed by Zak Starkey and bandmates Andy Bell (Oasis), Shaun Ryder, and Bez (Happy Mondays), took part in a full Cavern Club “takeover” before Zak’s and the band’s induction into the Wall of Fame. Together, they delivered two energetic shows of “filthy tribal future pop” that left fans spellbound. The crowd eagerly embraced the band’s infectious sound, dancing and singing along as the group filled the historic venue with vibrant energy.
The excitement didn’t end there. The night before, Zak made a surprise debut on The Cavern’s legendary stage. Joining The Cavern Club Beatles—the venue’s resident Beatles tribute band—he treated audiences to an unforgettable set of Beatles classics. Sharing the stage with fellow drummer Chris Sharrock (former Oasis drummer and current member of Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds), Zak delighted fans with his flawless rhythms and evident joy in performing the Fab Four’s tunes. The two drummers captivated the audience, revelling in the moment and paying homage to the timeless music of the Beatles.
This weekend celebration not only honoured Zak Starkey’s incredible career but also highlighted the enduring legacy of the Starr family within Liverpool’s music history. From his father’s iconic beginnings at The Cavern Club to Zak’s contemporary contributions to rock and psychedelia, the event symbolised the powerful connection between generations of musical excellence. It’s safe to say that the spirit of the Beatles lives on—and the Wall of Fame just got a little brighter with Zak’s addition.
